“You, as much as anyone in the universe, deserve your love and respect.” – Buddha
This is one of my favourite quotes from the Buddha. It speaks of loving and respecting yourself, which is sometimes quite hard to do! This is not because you are an unlovable person or a person worthy of your own respect, but rather, because you have developed a habit of being hard on yourself. Most people have this same habit.
It is easy to be hard on ourselves, and if we actually looked at it objectively, we say things to ourselves that we would never in a million years say to one of our friends. (Even if it is slightly true!) But my point is that you won’t find fault with your friends as much as you would find it with yourself.… Read the rest
“People only realize what they had after they lose it, so hold onto what you have and never let it go.”
This quote is interesting and very true. You rarely realize what a good thing you have going in life until it is gone. This can be another person, some friends, a job, really anything. It is human nature to not appreciate what we have in the moment and rather keep obsessing over what we don’t have.
A wise man will understand and appreciate all of the blessings he has. Each person has so much to be thankful for, even if it is not exactly what you wanted or imagined. The key to happiness is not to think about what will make us happy, but rather realize what we already possess that makes us happy. … Read the rest
“True love begins when nothing is looked for in return.”
~ Antoine De Saint-Exupery
In honour of Valentine’s Day, even though I don’t celebrate it, I thought that I would put up a true love quote. This quote was written in the story the Little Prince, which is a beautiful little tale about a boy and a flower that he falls in love with.
This quote considers the true nature of love. People from the dawn of time have been trying to understand what love is and this is De Saint-Exupery’s answer. It is simply when you love and expect nothing in return – no wedding ring, no fancy house, no perfect person. Simply loving someone for exactly who they are and not desiring anything in return. … Read the rest
Someday, someone will walk into your life and make you realize why it never worked out with anyone else.
When you are going through a breakup it can be really tough. You still have feelings for your ex, whether or not you were the one to break up with them or be broken up with. It takes a long time to get over a relationship. They say it takes half as long as you were with someone to get over them. So if you were with them for 8 years, then it would take 4 years to get over them. I’m not sure how true this is, it varies for every person but it takes a long time to get over someone.… Read the rest
“I am in love – and, my God, it is the greatest thing that can happen to a man. I tell you, find a woman you can fall in love with. Do it. Let yourself fall in love. If you have not done so already, you are wasting your life.”
D. H. Lawrence
This is one of the most well known D. H. Lawrence quotes of all time. Lawrence is known for pushing the boundaries and writing novels that were banned at the time of publication like Sons and Lovers, and Lady Chatterley’s Lover. His focus in writing novels was on love and people choosing love over social norms in their lives, so it is no surprise he coined such a beautiful quote on love.… Read the rest
A Best friend is someone who knows all about you and loves you anyway.
– Elbert Hubbard
This quote is so true! I often think that despite all of my inadequacies and annoying habits, my friends still see around those things, to the good person that I hope to portray most of the time. And that makes me feel pretty special.
We all have our super annoying tendencies. One of my best friends talks about herself constantly, one is kind of passive aggressive and one is grumpy. But I love them all anyways! Despite these negative aspects of their personalities, they still manage to be very inspirational and kind friends. And they are always there for me when I need them.… Read the rest
