“Holding on to anything is like holding on to your breath. You will suffocate. The only way to get anything in the physical universe is by letting go of it. Let go & it will be yours forever”. – Deepak Chopra
Deepak Chopra is a medical doctor who discovered a passion for different modes of healing and spirituality. He has written dozens of bestselling books on different topics ranging from meditation to natural healing to the mysteries of life. He is extremely wide read and respected as an author and educator. In this quote, he is speaking about letting go of things. This is a very hard thing to do. It is our nature to hold on to past hurts, old regrets and self doubts. But this only harms us rather than letting us keep living a good life.
Chopra’s advice is to let it go. When you hold on to things, it stops your ability to fully live in the present moment, much like holding your breath will not let you keep living in the present moment. Obviously, not as drastically, but still in the same way. If you let go of things, you understand their nature – not only emotionally, but also physical things too. Things are only temporary as are emotions. Everything is only temporary. If you let go of it, make peace with it, or anything like that, it will still exist for you – it always will, but it will no longer be able to hurt you or prevent you from living your life fully.
When Chopra is talking about the physical universe, he means anything that we can tangibly see or touch. This seems paradoxical to let go of something and only then will it be yours forever. He means that it is only by letting go of our attachment to things can we ever truly experience them. Without the need for something, we experience it more profoundly – there is no sense of desire to keep these things unchanged and with us forever.
